Greg Mankiw agrees with me

From my previous post:
English and Journalism majors are simply too incompetent at complex issues to do a proper job of covering our world today.

Though maybe I should be scared that a Republican Economist agrees with me. Then again, he's agreeing with Brad DeLong as well...

Let's fling some insults at economists to be evenhanded. ;-) I used to hear this one in grad school: "Economists exist to make astrologers look good." Apparently this is a distortion of something said by John Kenneth Galbraith - "The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable."

It's not justified? Let's see. The New York Times published an article about evolution versus creationists and portrayed the creationists as being on the same footing as the scientists.

The reporter's reaction to protests are described here When journalists start writing stories that betray an understanding of complex issues, I'll be satisfied that the press corps is qualified to write about the modern economy or science.

I'm not saying that all economists are good --- just as there are certain climate scientists that have been bought off by Exxon Mobil, there have also been economists bought off by rich people. But when economists on both ends of the political spectrum agree on how bad our press corps is, something is deeply rotten. Or do you not believe that Judith Miller's reports on Iraq were of no consequence despite how wrong they were?
