Rise of the Dungeon Master is a recounting of the history of D&D, told in comic book format. It is short and easy to read, something you can finish in less than an hour. The art is crude but effective, and one of the most interesting properties about the narrative is that it alludes to D&D but speaking to you in the second person, occasionally giving you choices.
The story provides very minor biographical details about Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, and does a good job of avoiding siding with either side when their relationship turned acrimonious, mostly because Gygax left Arneson out of the company he started. It's clear that as a businessman, Gygax was way out of his depth (the guy was a high school dropout, and had lots of other things on his mind), and lost control of his company despite his success because he didn't keep a handle on the CEOs he brought in to help run the company.
Don't expect great detail about the various editions of D&D or even the business battles that went on behind the scenes, many of which were covered by NDA anyway. But for a short quick read that doesn't waste your time I can recommend it.
